Advantages and Disadvantages Essay : Education and Technology

These days, each person is surrounded by technology. Clearly, technology is presented as an interesting option at teaching time, where several applications, technological devices, social networks, etc. can be found to help with the tasks. An example of these are netbooks that have became an important challenge for teachers and have both positive and negative aspects.

On the one hand, these technological devices enable students and teachers to download different applications to develop studying skills, such as digital dictionaries, and books. In addition to this, they are more mobile, and easier to carry and pack; that is to say, they can be easily carried from home to school. Besides, hand-held computers can be used to make the class more entertaining, with the use of softwares like Prezi, and PowerPoint for creative presentations.

On the other hand, a lot of benefits depend on the access to the Internet; and the majority of schools have no connection to it. Moreover, as netbooks come in small size, it is difficult to have place for the DVD drive. This tool is required to play CDs with different useful contents. Not to mention the fact that, sometimes students misuse these artefacts; in other words, they are not aware of their importance and play games instead of studying.

Taking everything into account, the introduction of netbooks is a demanding task, and teachers should make students conscious of their purpose and educational benefits. In this way, they know that all the technology that keeps students entertained can also be presented in the classroom to learn better in a more enjoyable way.
